PARTNERS

PACK THE PANTRY

Pack the Pantry is an event brought to you by New Point Church where we purchase items at local Hy-Vee’s needed to fill local food pantries. We encourage our community to join by handing out needed item lists at the door and directing them to drop off trucks.

Volunteers are vital to the effective operation of the food pantry. The following tasks are opportunities for you to volunteer beyond City Reach. Greeting clients, being a “shopping partner” with clients, re-stocking shelves, picking up donations from local businesses, collection food and money for holiday meals, and doing general office work. You can learn more at: urbandalefoodpantry.org

We will need about 10 volunteers to be on-site to
* help hand out cards,
* help load/unload trucks and
* help to deliver to the food pantries at the end of the event.

We will shop at the Urbandale Hy-Vee and a team will deliver the food to the Urbandale/Waukee food pantries.

Not only are you helping people in need, but meal packaging is also a fun, easy way for all ages to volunteer.

In addition to packaging the meals, we will also be purchasing all the supplies so we can to be a blessing not just with volunteers but to help contribute to the cost of the meals.

A donation basket will be available at the event if you would like to contribute.

The packing location for the event is New Point Church.

BACKPACK BUDDIES

UCAN’s Backpack Buddies program is a partnership with the Food Bank of Iowa. The program provides weekend meal packs to Urbandale school students who have been identified as “chronically hungry”.

Each backpack contains breakfast foods, lunch and dinner items, snacks, and beverages, all of which are selected to provide nutritional balance. The backpacks are distributed at the end of each school week and children return to school on Monday better prepared to learn, grow, and develop properly.
