HELP OUR COMMUNITY
Take part in meeting community needs with others from New Point
City Reach Pantry
Help in our mission is to lighten the burden of food insecurity in our community.
In 2020, we became aware of an increased need to help those with food insecurity due to reduced work hours for many people and the struggle to provide for their families. We were able to access some fresh produce and deliver it to families in need. Over the last several years, our food program has grown to serve over 130 families each week from all over the metro area. Each week we have a variety of fresh foods, produce, meat and dairy products.
From providing food for a family with young children to helping the elderly make ends meet with the rising cost of medication, we look to provide a little more security on where their next meal will come from.
Our mission is to help lighten the burden of food insecurity in our community. It is our intention that they receive not only food each week for their physical hunger, but kindness and grace to feed their spiritual and emotional needs.
The opportunity to help others continues to grow and we believe we can all play a part in seeing families have this basic need met so they focus on their other needs.
Harbor of Hope
Harbor of Hope is a non-profit and charity recovery house in Des Moines that strives to provide men coming from prison, jail, the streets, treatment, or other programs with access to resources in the Des Moines area and to foster fellowship within the recovery community.
They house around 40 men at any given time who are all working and attending AA or celebrate recovery programs to help get their lives back on track.
New Point Church provides a monthly meal to these residents to help show God’s love to these men. This serving opportunity takes place on the 3rd Monday of each month. Each month we need a couple volunteers to help make/serve the meal as well as some strong Christian men to help talk to and encourage the men. New Point has also been providing an Alpha program to the men at Harbor of Hope to share Jesus with them in a very open and less intimidating way. Supporting Harbor of Hope is a great way to love on our community and to show the compassion of Jesus.
YMCA
Join us to help us serve a meal to the residents at the YMCA Supportive Housing.
New volunteers are welcome to arrive at 5:30pm for a tour and orientation. Volunteers who have been here before can arrive at 6pm and head straight into the kitchen. Minimum volunteer age is 14.
A meal is served each Tuesday evening to the men and women at the housing facility. New Point Church sponsors the meal four times a year.
The YMCA Supportive Housing Campus is a community solution to help eliminate homelessness by providing hope, dignity, and support in the form of permanent supportive housing. The campus provides a place to call home for 140 men and women. The constant wait list demonstrates the need for affordable housing in the community
SINGLE PARENT PROVISION
Single Parent Provision is a non-profit organization providing a trusted partner to single parents and their families.
They do this by offering programs and services to help single parents strengthen and thrive.
Each month New Point Church provides a monthly donation to help this program continue to build strong families in our community.
RESTORING HOPE INTERNATIONAL
RHI is working to establish homes for children in South Africa orphaned as a result of the HIV pandemic.
Restoring Hope International is a non-profit organization based on Christian principles.
New Point Church supports Restoring Hope with a monthly gift, church missions projects and several of our church members have gone to South Africa to donate their time and serve at the orphanage.
TRINIDAD
New Point Church has partnered with missionaries, Mike & Pam Lumbard, to help reach the people of Trinidad.
With a heart to serve the lost and the hurting, the Lumbards are the directors of the School of Global Leadership in Trinidad.
They are committed to help train others to share the gospel of Jesus. “There is a big job to do. There are people who have never heard about Jesus and God’s love for them.”, says Pastor Mike Lumbard.
SWEET CHILDREN’S CENTER
Sweet Children’s Center is a children’s home in Joshodango, India located in the northeast region of India.
This center began out of a need that was discovered by minister Jai Pandy during a training seminar for indigenous pastors.
God opened an opportunity they were not expecting and as a result this children’s center was birthed. The center exists to help clothe, feed, and educate marginalized children and is now home to over 30 in all.
In 2018, Jai Pandy came to the U.S. and visited with the Board of Directors from New Point Church. At that meeting the Holy Spirit showed up and moved upon the board to begin annual support of these Children. We are honored to help support these ministry efforts that are taking place in India!
