Staff Bios

Brett Black

Pastor Brett and his wife Jennifer have been married and in full-time ministry for 23 years. They have four beautiful daughters; Melia – 19, Maraena – 15, and twins Serena and Sabrie – 14. They are committed to pastoring, planting churches, building wells, and sharing the love of Christ whenever given the opportunity.

When his attention isn’t on his family or New Point Church (which is most of the time), he pursues one of his other great passions in life, MUSIC! He is a singer/songwriter and every once in a while performs with the Brett Black Band. His favorite sports are football, tennis, and CrossFit. He is a member of the Greater Des Moines Tennis Association and CrossFit Des Moines.

Jennifer launched Black Photography several years ago and operates that business full-time. She also enjoys baking, shopping, and CrossFit. She is a member of CrossFit Des Moines.

Together they are passionate about their girls, family trips, and hanging out in coffee shops.

Jordan Lumbard

Jordan came to New Point Church in June of 2015 and serves as one of our Teaching Pastor’s. He also oversees the Tech & Production Department.

For over ten years, Jordan has served as a Youth Pastor, Associate Pastor, and a Creative Media Director. No matter the role he has found himself in, Jordan has always sought to help people have an experience with Jesus that would change their life.

Prior to coming to New Point, Jordan was a Creative Media Specialist at the University of Iowa. As a communicator, he continues to use the creative skills he has learned in the church and in his profession to present the Gospel in creative ways. In his unique role at New Point, Jordan has been able to be used as both a teacher, and as a creative media nerd. Two of his greatest passions!

Jordan and his wife Lindsey have been married since 2005 and have four young daughters; Madison, Maiah, Mackenzie, and Mollie. He is a graduate of INSTE Bible College in 2005 where he studied Theology. He also graduated from Kirkwood Community College in 2016 with an A.A.S. in Web Technologies.

Emily Olson

Emily came to New Point in 2005 with her husband Jason. They both love how welcoming New Point is and how they walk away with a message each week that they can apply to their lives. Emily began with our children’s ministry in 2009 and is now one of our Children’s Directors here at Point of Grace. She is blessed to have the opportunity to help our kids learn about Jesus in a fun and exciting way. She loves people and enjoys seeing them find their place within our church.

When she is not working in children’s ministry she enjoys spending time with her husband, Jason and their children: Jackson (5), Bennett (3) and Stella (2). She loves to entertain and loves to cook.

Lori Hommer

Lori has served on staff at New Point Church since 2005. Her passion is to see people grow into mature followers of Jesus Chirst. She heads up the adult programing and classes offered at POG. She loves teaching and supporting the teachers and facilitators of the many programs offered. Lori has a Bachelors Degree in Education and a Masters Degree in Christian Counseling. She has been married to her husband Tim for over 20 years and they have 5 grown children and 3 grandchildren. Her hobbies include travel, golf, music and just hanging out with friends and family. Lori also has her own counseling practice; Life Changers Counseling and Coaching that was established in 2008.

Kate Wierson

Kate and her husband, Jeff, began at New Point in 2006. They love the people, the music, the messages and they always knew they wanted to raise their family in this church. Kate is the Nursery Director at New Point and she is blessed to take care of the youngest members of our church, our children ages 6 weeks to 2 years old. She is happy to provide them with a safe and loving environment while their parents are learning in the auditorium.

Kate and Jeff have three children: Makylah, Kaelsten and Taelyn. She is inspired by her kids and love how they teach her something on a daily basis.

Melia Black

As the Worship and Creative Arts Director, Melia is heavily involved in children, youth, and adult worship services. Melia has been involved in worship ministries since she was in her early-teens, but has been actively leading worship for the past three years. Melia is currently in her second year of college as a music major. She enjoys spending time with her friends, her family, and she loves caring for her dog Kalvin.

Blake Pruitt

Blake Pruitt was born Dec. 18th 1991 and has been attending New Point since he was a kid in the youth ministry. He began volunteering there during his senior year at Johnston High School, operating the sound board and occasionally helping create graphics. He graduated from DMACC in 2013 with a Graphic Design with Web Emphasis degree and was hired at the church in May 2014. Blake loves technology, music, art and creativity. In his free time he enjoys playing video games, jamming on his guitar, and watching movies/shows.
